Before and After, Cost & Reviews of Breast Reduction By Liposuction

Submitted by Nic on March 12, 2013

Breast reduction by liposuction is a surgical procedure that is used to remove excess fat, breast tissue and skin size. The goal is to reduce a woman’s breast size and make it proportional to the rest of her body. While it has obvious cosmetic benefits, it also helps to correct symptoms of physical discomfort and pain that may be associated with unusually large breasts.

Studies have shown that approximately 50% of women with bra cup sizes of D or larger experience pain and discomfort in their upper back, neck, shoulders and lower back. The pain may be either intermittent or constant. Other symptoms that have been reported include headaches, pain in the breasts, breathing difficulties while lying on the back and difficulty in falling asleep due to the discomfort caused by the bulk of the breasts.

Liposuction to reduce breast size is performed by a plastic surgeon. It is a type of cosmetic surgery more commonly associated with the removal of excess fat from around the waist and hips. There are several types of liposuction techniques that are used today. They include:

  • Tumescent liposuction (fluid injection)
  • Super-wet technique
  • Ultrasound assisted liposuction

Liposuction for breast reduction is a serious surgical process and should not be used for cosmetic reasons without taking into account the risks involved. Nor should it be used as a substitute for exercise and diet.

Breast reduction can also be accomplished using reduction mammoplasty. Speak to your doctor beforehand about the benefits and risks involved in both these techniques. It is better to have all the pertinent information regarding your surgery before the procedure so as not to be disappointed afterwards. Take someone (your spouse, family member or friend) along with you when you first visit your doctor. Familiarize yourself with the pre and post-operative care as well as the liposuction procedure. Read the online reviews for the procedure that the doctor has recommended. Clear all your doubts.

After the surgery, bandages and compression garments will be needed to prevent bleeding from the site of the surgery. These will be needed for at least two weeks, probably more. You will need to visit your doctor periodically to check on the healing process.

The cost of a liposuction will depend on the type of liposuction and whether or not you require a hospital stay. Liposuctions for smaller volumes usually cost less and are usually done on an outpatient basis.
